What is USB 2.0?

Universal Serial Bus (USB) is an industry standard specification for technology that connects devices. It has several iterations, with the 3.0 specifications the most recent. USB 2.0 came to the market in spring of 2000 and has a speed of 480MB/second, 10X slower than USB3.0’s 5GB/second. However, USB 2.0 is still a viable and affordable option for flash drives and is still commonly used in retail electronics.

USB 2.0 refers to the technological capabilities of the plug, not the plug shape.
